Daisy Ice Cream Visits Wilton House Classic and Super Car Event

While the weather turns wintery it’s lovely to look back at the warm summer days filled with ice cream and smiles.  At the beginning of August I took Daisy and her fully stocked ice cream freezer, down to Wilton House in Salisbury, Wiltshire for their Annual Classic and Super Car Event.  I really enjoyed being at an event where the visitors were as excited by Daisy’s restoration as they were by her ice cream.

Wilton House has been home to the Earl of Pembroke for 460 years, not the same one obviously, that would make him a sort of Dr Who!  The Earl of Pembroke and his sons love cars, really, really love cars.  From the breathtaking beauty of the Classics to the heart stopping power of the Super Cars, and they have a healthy collection themselves.  Every year they bring together fellow enthusiasts to put on an event in support of  The Stars Appeal – a local charity based at Salisbury Hospital.

Beautiful Classics

This was one of my favourite Daisy Ice Cream events of the year, although getting up at 4am on a Sunday after 7 back to back ice cream filled weddings didn’t make it feel that at the time!  Daisy was given the honour of serving ice cream from a prime location on the South Lawn with an incredible array of Classics on one side including, a BMW 3.0CSL, a Shelby Mustang and the Aston Martin Owners’ Club with early DBs and a V8 Zagato.  On her other side the Super Cars roared and revved including Bugatti Veyrons, Koenigseggs, McLaren 12Cs and a Lamborghini Aventador.

The Super Cars arrived in convoy after completing the traditional and historic Gurston Down Hill Climb before taking part in a ‘rev off’.  The sun shone, Daisy and her ice cream proved to be very popular.  I discovered that Ferrari owners love Rum and Raisin while the Aston Martin owners favoured the more classic Chocolate ice cream.  I scooped in a mad frenzy all day, I had ice cream related blisters by the end of it!

It was a really fun event which I highly recommend if you are in the area next August, it’s not just petrol heads there was an air display, bikes and all sorts of things for the whole family to enjoy, specially the ice cream!  Wilton House itself is set in the most beautiful grounds and has a fascinating history, it’s well worth a visit at any time of year.  We will definitely be at the Classic and Super Car Event in 2013.
