Daisy Vintage Ices is fully committed to ensuring as far as possible a zero to landfill policy.

Daisy runs silently on leisure batteries, with no noisy engines running, or generators required.

All products sold are excellent quality, and a huge part of the purchasing decision is the packaging within which products are contained.

The luxury ice cream is hand-scooped either into edible sugar cones or into recyclable tubs with compostable wooden spoons.  We now even stock edible tubs – once you’ve eaten the ice cream, unwrap the paper and eat the wafer tub!

Ice lollies which we stock are by Lickalix – as well as being delicious, organic, vegan and totally free-from all 14 food allergens, they are in 100% compostable packaging.

All drinks are canned, including water, as cans can be recycled time and time again.

I carry a compost bin on board the ice cream van and ask that customers unwrap their ice lollies straight away, so the packaging can go straight in the compost bin.  I always let them know that they can also bring back their pots and spoons for composting too.

I recycle or compost everything that I can as I, personally, am hugely passionate about the fact that just using recyclable and compostable products is not enough.  If a used ice cream tub and wooden spoon are then just thrown into a general waste bin by the customer, it will end up in landfill anyway.  Equally if ice cream tubs are dirty, ie not rinsed, they are generally not actually recyclable either.  Who is going to rinse their ice cream tub before putting in the recycling bin when out at an event?

There is much educating still to be done in the UK about what is and isn’t recyclable.  Unfortunately, different councils have different rules, customers are unclear and unless we give people an easy solution, then it will take a long time before we win the battle against reducing items going into landfill and single use plastics ending up in our oceans.
